With just few weeks left for the 21st winter Olympics to begin the atmosphere is really warming in the sports world. Past medalists as well as recent winners in the world competitions are getting ready for this prestigious event. Every sportsman and woman dreams of having an Olympic medal around their necks and now is the chance to make that dream come true.
The Winter Olympics for 2010 is scheduled to be held from 12th to the 28th of February. The venue for this year’s event is Vancouver Canada. “With Glowing Hearts” is the motto for this great event. There are over 80 nations participating with over 5500 contesters competing in 86 events in 15 sports. Snowboarding is one such sport with three events in both male and female categories.
SNOWBOARDING
Snowboarding is like surfing on snow. It is rather a new sport with combined features of skateboarding, surfing and skiing. There’s a snowboard attached to the rider’s feet with special boots and the rider then descends down a slope at high speeds while performing turns and jumps. Snowboarding has a brief history of less than 50 years and it was in 1998 that this sport was first introduced to the Winter Olympics. There are three events in the Olympic level named Halfpipe, Parallel giant slalom and Snowboard cross for this year.
In 2010 Winter Olympics snowboarding events will be held in the Cypress Mountain staring from 15th February to 27th. The schedule is as follows.
Monday, 2010-02-15 Snowboard Cross Men Qualification and Finals
Tuesday, 2010-02-16 Snowboard Cross Women Qualification and Finals
