As kids, we played, made mud pies in the sun.
As kids, so simply, we found anyway to have fun.
There were no worries, even on a rainy day,
We just grabbed our gumboots
And in muddle puddles we would play.
Days were spent outside
Faithfully, from sunrise to sunset,
Sometimes venturing out
With other children we had met.
As kids, we played pirates
Dodging, running in amongst the trees.
With sticks in hand mimicking swords,
We ferociously battled to be free.
As children, our imaginations lit up a room
Like the sun on a warm summer’s day.
Even when the weather banished us inside,
A living room could quickly be turned into a stage,
Us, into characters of our very own play.
As kids, there are so many versions
Of that precious word called fun.
The only thing to stop the play
Was Mother’s voice calling out,
It was time to come in.

There were no worries, even
Skinny dipping at midnight in the sea
Having a parent pay the bail to set you free
Thrills and panic rolled into one
Was it
Lovin' You
Baseball cards and bubble gum
Tootsie pops and coconut rum
Christmas cards and New Years Eve
Stary skies and
Overworked
Driveways are a place to park your car
Parkways are a place to drive your car
Sign-makers must not know what
People Watcher...
I like to watch people in a crowd.
To imagine what they are like and just think out loud.
