It can become a time and money waster, and some mangers are using software to track excessive and personal use of the Internet, and then talk with the respective employees about this personal use of the Internet during working hours. Texting and personal cell phone use..
Some employeesuse their cell phone to text their friends, family members, classmates and other about personal and non-working related issues. An occasional one or two short ones are permissable, but doing it excessive times a day, is costly, and should be restricted, unless you, have a real family issue or personal issue, and you check will you boss, to get her permission. The Internet can waste time.
Excessive Personal Internet Use.
Many jobs require you to many use of the Internet to do the research necessary to complete your work, but unfortunately, too many minutes and hours, are being spent on the Internet for personal use, such as social networking, surfing the net, and going to websites unrelated to your job or need. Managers are monitoring employees, with software driven tools, to determine what employees, and to what extent, are abusing their Internet use, and discussing it wtih these employees. Planning your work is crucial daily.
Lack of time planning for your workload.
You know that project A, is needed for your boss on Friday's meeting, and you have a number of things to do today. Put project A on the highest priority of the day, and start it early, so you can it to your boss, early enough, so that any additions, corrections, editorial work, can be done early enough to do them on time. Give yourself enough time to finish each report, email, project, so you can review it fully, before sending it, rather than have to do it over, and spend more time. One time manager said, "Do it right the first time." Excessive personal chatter is a time robber.
Personal Talk hurts when excessive.
Sports, current events, celebrities news, music and other topics is fine at lunch or on break, but not too much, at your desk or your station at work, simply, say, "Chris, I enjoy talking about the Steelers and their chance of success in the super bowl, but I need to get back to my work, I have a deadline on a sale order for overseas. Let's chat at lunch." Personal chatter hurts other employees trying to get their work done. When this becomes a habit it hurts productivity, and upsets many others. Let's sum up.
Summary. You are a special person. and you have many special skills, or you would not have the job or business you have now, but time is money, and money is time, your need to get the right work done, the right way, so the customer is satisfied, and you get paid, and you turn that customer into a lifelong customers. The way your manage your time, and cut all the time-waster situations down, you will be making an important contribution to your job and the success or your organization. Go for it.
