With the rise and prevalence of Feminist theory there has been a flooding of choice. Who should approach whom? Traditionally it's been the male and well it has worked, hasn't it? We're all here reading this after all. Connections were initiated and babies were made. Unfortunately, that model just does not work any more. Because western culture is shifting to a more egalitarian society, what is deems socially acceptable and is rapidly changing.
I don't believe it to be a matter of whether one sex is more outgoing than the other. I would dare to say that there just as many shy women as there are shy men out there. Also, rejection is a look that doesn't look good on anyone. Putting your heart out on the chopping block and then being rejected makes one feel like well... a piece of meat. Hence this is where one of the fundamental problems lies for the male-centric model of dating and meeting new singles. The basis on which one chooses and finds a date is superficial and shallow. If one seeks a physical attraction than yes, this is a great way of meeting people. But for those who seek to create a deeper and more profound connection this definitely is not it. One might as well be throwing darts at board.
Secondly, there are a million voices shouting and competing for the most attractive and beautiful women according to OkTrends, the blog of the popular dating site OkCupid. According to their data compiled from their users 2/3 of all messages sent by males are aimed at the top 1/3 of all females. More importantly their data also shows that women tend to be more picky and harsh when it comes to rating attractiveness. It turns out that female users rated 80% of all males below average as far as attractiveness goes. Point being, attractiveness matters a whole lot to both sexes. As the OkCupid staff points out their site tends to be fairly progressive, so if their numbers are so visibly skewed towards the attractive, than more conservative sites will most likely exhibit an even bigger bias. Ultimately, how does one hope to find love in a mob of shouting and competing voices? In a bar one has to beat away the countless deadbeats, and online one has to sift through an onslaught of mail. Again, how does on really expect to find true love in this manner, a pounding kick drum isn’t exactly conducive to deep conversations about Baudrillard or any other highbrow fare.
It doesn’t take a fancy chart or study to show that most men will hump anything that has a pulse.
