Millville bite-size frosted shredded wheat cereal is a boxed cereal variety found at ALDI, a discount food store operational in more than 15 countries including the U.S., U.K. and Australia. On today’s grocery shelves live a generous variety of shredded wheat cereals, both frosted and non-frosted. The Millville bite-size frosted shredded wheat cereal is distributed by ALDI, Inc and available exclusively at ALDI food stores. This cereal is a discount brand that competes with big-name giants like Post Frosted Shredded Wheat and Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats.
A bite-size frosted shredded wheat is a rectangular pillow of shredded whole grain wheat that has been toasted and lightly frosted on one side. It is a hearty and filling variety of cereal that can be eaten cold, warmed or by itself as snack straight from the box. A name-brand version of this cereal like Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats can cost as much as $4 (U.S.) per box whereas the discounted ALDI version retails for a minimal $1.49 (U.S.).
The Millville bite-size frosted shredded wheat looks like the name brand versions that sell for a higher price. It has an appealing toasted color on its wheat and the frosting is bright white covering one side of the cereal piece. Upon first bite, the hearty crunch expected from a shredded wheat cereal is there. However, not every piece of cereal is fully coated with frosting so the first bite was not sweet and a trifle bland. The piece had a thicker coating of frosting making the overall taste more flavorful. Without the frosting, the cereal’s taste is flat and unappealing.
The first several bites are not bad, however after about six or seven pieces a curious sensation hits. An aftertaste is present, almost feeling like the tongue has coated. It is not an offensive aftertaste but it is also not overly pleasant. A good swig of milk or coffee does wash it away.
Does ALDI’s discounted Millville bite-size frosted shredded wheat cereal taste as good as the more expensive name brand?
It is this reviewer’s opinion that the Millville bite-size frosted shredded wheat cereal does not taste as good as Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats. However, for about $1.50 per 19-ounce (538g) box, they are worth the money. The taste is not bad. Yes, the frosting is spotty and my box did contain a few pieces that were overly toasted, but the overall taste was
