If you are a fan of The Notebook, then The Lucky One will blow you away. As many of the books that Nicholas Sparks published, this is another tale of love and a longing to know a purpose in life. It will especially be interesting if you are a part of the armed forces, like me, as the main character shares many of deployment occurrences that we all can relate to today. Logan Thibault, a marine who served overseas at least three times, walked from Colorado to Hampton, North Carolina in search of a female in a picture he found in the desert of Iraq. His friend, Victor, believed that the picture brought Thibault luck throughout the deployments. Even other marines were skeptical of how Thibault was so lucky to survive certain combat situations. During a fishing trip, Victor convinced Thibault to look for the female in the picture and tell her of the luck he had while he was deployed. Anyone would have thought Logan Thibault was crazy for walking from Colorado to North Carolina for a stranger that might not even exist anymore. Though having the picture helped find the female still in the same town. Instead of freaking her out about the picture he was carrying for years, he decides to play it cool and obtain a job working for the females’ grandmother. He experiences a beautiful journey and eventually finds his purpose as to why he traveled so far to meet a stranger.
This book helps readers realize just how far an ordinary man will go to find his purpose. I was immediately attracted to the book after reading the back cover. Given that all the events are realistic shows that fate is strong and that everyday occurrences will eventually mean something in the end. Usually I suggest something that could have been done better in a book but there is no going wrong when dealing with an author like Nicholas Sparks. Reading The Lucky One inspired me to catch up on the rest of the novels that Nicholas Sparks has published. I suggest reading this book on a hammock or in a lovely garden that is quiet. Once opening this book, there is no telling how much time will pass as you will be quickly absorbed, so I suggest that this book be a weekend getaway from the cruel real world. After reading this book, you will be able to open your eyes about the world and take advantage of everything life has given you.
