"Our soul mate is the one who makes life come to life."- Richard Bach, American writer
The above quote provided by Richard Bach describes in the simplest of words exactly what it means to have and to be a soul mate. If I were to describe a soul mate myself, I would describe it quite similarly to the words above. If we imagine ourselves and our souls as pieces to a large puzzle, our soul mate is the other puzzle piece to which we are content and require no other pieces. If we consider ourselves instead to be the entire puzzle, our soul mate is that last missing piece. It cannot be filled by just anyone; that spot is reserved and reserved for no one other than our soul mate.
The analogies and metaphors can continue further: If we imagine ourselves to be a blank piece of paper, our soul mate is the ink that defines us. If we imagine ourselves to be an empty glass, our soul mate is the matter which fills us. And if we imagine ourselves to be a window, our soul mate is the beauty that lies within view.
To be someone's soul mate and to have a soul mate is a feeling unlike any other. When you have a soul mate, your love for them can never fully be described in words. Your reasons for loving them can never truly be defined. And your undying connection to them can never be explored. A soul mate is a best friend to which you would be nothing without. You complete one another and as Richard Bach said, you give one another life. Your soul mate is like the air that you breathe. You do not necessarily know why you need them but there is no doubt in your mind that you do.
When you have found your soulmate there is no doubt in your mind about it. You have found someone that you wish to love and cherish until and beyond the end of time. Your soulmate is the person whom your thoughts continually return to, whom you love and care for before anything and everything else, whom (for a reason you do not quite no) you cannot live without.
A soul mate is someone whom you want to be with even in their worst of times. The relationship between soul mates is an undeniable connection; they are there through the good and the bad. A soul mate is one who will stay up all night talking with you about nothing and everything, but also someone who can enjoy the silence of your company. A soul mate "just knows" without any words, any signs, and with distance between you. A soul mate is beside you even when worlds apart.
A soul mate is everything; your other half, your counterpart, your all and without your soul mate your life is nothing.
