Where to buy old Disney movies

by Michele Wilmonen

In most people’s childhoods there was a special Disney movie that became their favorite for one reason or another.  As time passes and adulthood becomes reality it is nice to sometimes escape back into your childhood with that old movie.  So if you are ready to take that trip back in time with the Disney movie of your choice here’s how to find it.

 Disney Movie Club

The first step in finding that old Disney movie is to make a visit to the Disney Movie Club website.  They have every Disney movie ever made, including quite a few that you probably have never heard of.  The only time you will not be able to find a Disney movie on this site is if it is in the vault which means that it is not currently available through Disney at that time.  So what do you do if the movie is not available?  Start doing some creative shopping.

 Pawn Shops

While you may not be one to set foot in a pawn shop it is a great place to find Disney movies that are not available and also where you can get a movie for extremely cheap.  However, it may be best to keep to the VHS movies and to stay away from the DVD’s as the chance that you will be able to find a DVD without scratches is slim.  Of course, if you are equipped to fix DVD’s the price may be low enough that even if you are not able to fix it you won’t have lost too much money.

 Antique Malls

There is a difference between an Antique Mall and an Antique shop.  An Antique shop is generally smaller and the antiques are usually a collection of one person.  Antique shops also have a smaller inventory to browse through.  Antique Malls on the other hand are places to take a trip back in time for a whole afternoon.  Antique Malls are large gatherings of multiple antique collectors that have either paid to rent a section of the mall or they pay a percentage of their sales for their space.

With multiple collectors putting things up for sale there is a larger inventory to browse through and this includes old movies.  You don’t usually see too many DVDs for sale, they are usually all VHS, so if you have a VCR still you should be able to find that old Disney movie you are looking for at a very reasonable price.

If all else fails try the internet.  Ebay and other auction sites might have what you are looking for or you may be able to find a person that specializes in selling old Disney movies.  Just keep an eye open and make sure that you are not purchasing a pirated copy of the movie you are looking for.  Also there are just some movies that are scarce or just not available by legal means no matter where you look.
