If you have a hamster, you may want to buy accessories for it such as toys, wheels and other such items.  They sell many of these items at different sources, including pet stores such as Pet Supermarket, Petco and PetSmart and at many websites on the World Wide Web.  There are some different things you will want to consider before making such a purchase.  The following are some tips for buying hamster accessories.

If you are putting the accessory into the hamster’s cage, then you will want to first decide what you can fit in there.  The hamsters need room to run around; you do not want to fill it with so much stuff that the hamster doesn’t have room to move.  Even if they are toys, it will be counterproductive if it takes away the room that they need.  Make sure you have good measurements of the inside of the cage and a good idea of how much you feel that you can fill it.  Don’t just try to guess if something will fit because you do not want to bring it home only to have to bring it right back to the store (or just waste the money if they don’t have a good return policy). 

When buying the accessories think about what the hamster likes to do.  You may not want to waste your money on something that is the same as a product you already have, unless you have multiple hamsters and you think they would like to use them at the same time. 

You will want to find out the return policy on the items.  Some stores have much more lenient policies.  Also find out if it is returnable if the hamsters try it out but just do not use it as you thought they would.  Especially if you are buying something that is more expensive it will be good to know that you can return it if it doesn’t work out.

Compare prices at different stores.  Although most hamster accessories are not particularly expensive, costs can add up, and nowadays people are trying to save money any way that they can.  Different stores will have the same products for different prices.  The Internet can also be a source where you can save money.  Look for different sales that the stores might have, and if you buy online you should look for coupon or promotional codes.  Some places have an email list in which they will send special discounts to people who sign up.
