In the game of golf, there are a few famous golf courses. These are great courses, that have staged Major championships such as the PGA, US Open, Masters or UK Open. Or alternatively, other PGA golf championships of the PGA tour. Here are few famous golf courses.

Augusta:

Augusta is a unique golf course. For it is the only course that stages a major championship. The Augusta Masters is played at this exclusive course each year, and is one of the best golf championships. The course is notable for its scenic holes. Some of the more notable holes include the 12th hole of Rae's Creek. Here, on this par 3 a watered creek is in front of the green, with Ben Hogan's bridge crossing. Overall, Augusta is heritage golf course.

St Andrews Old Course:

The golf course of St Andrews is an old and famous course. Sometimes referred to as the home of golf, the course has played host to a number of UK Opens and Amateur championships. Overall, the old course is a links style golf course. Holes such as the 17th are particularly notable, where championships have been won and lost. It is a long par 4 hole that includes a number of well placed bunkers. With such history, St Andrews is one of the most famous golf courses.

Pebble Beach:

Pebble Beach is golf course in California, which has some great scenery alongside the Pacific coast. Overall, it is a resort course and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in America. The course hosts the PGA National Pro-am, and has also hosted four US Open Championships dating back to 1972 and a PGA Championship. The course has some great holes, including a short 7th par 3 hole, with a green close to the Pacific and well guarded by bunkers. Hole eight is a hard par four hole, which has an elevated landing area on a cliff above the green. Admittedly, the course has high fees to play on it but if you can it is worth it.

Oakmont golf course

Oakmont golf course is another great American golf course. This is an old US course, dating back to 1903, that has a great history and championship tradition. The course has hosted more Major championships than most, including eight US Opens and three PGA Championships. Great golfers have played and won at Oakmont golf course, such as Hogan and Jones. As such, it is one of the hardest golf courses which includes deep bunkers and narrow fairways. Signature holes at Oakmont include the long 12th hole, which is up to 660 yards long and includes a number of bunkers along the fairway. Overall, Oakmont is a great championship golf course.

Pinehurst golf course

Pinehurst is a great golf resort with a number of courses. Perhaps the most famous golf course at Pinehurst is that of the 2nd golf course which is a championship course that has staged a number of major golf championships. Such championships staged here include the US PGA Championship and more recently the US Open. In addition to this, the Ryder Cup has also been staged at Pinehurst. Undoubtedly, it is hard course with a number of testing holes such as the 2nd and 18th.

Overall, these are a few famous golf courses. Such golf courses as Oakmont, Pebble Beach, St Andrews, Augusta and Pinehurst which are courses with great settings, history and have hosted a number of top golf championships.
