Several factors determine why a family member stops by a quality pet shop and purchases a new dog to keep another dog company.

How old is the dog? If the dog is less than two months old it needs breeding companionship. Newborns are very frightened of the world, and puppies are no exception. They need the warmth and comfort from their mother and the twins. The bitch needs to make them feel protected. After several weeks of development, many dogs make a successful transition of getting domesticated by a family that wishes to keep it as a solitary pet.

What kind of dog is it? My brother and niece owned a cute toy terrier, named Buster. They only had one of them. The dog didn’t have any breeding companionship or make friends with stray dogs in the outside world. It occasionally visited the big German Shepherd in the backyard, but almost had it’s poor nose ripped off two times. Some dogs don’t mix well together. Little dogs need the companionship of little dogs. But of course, there are exceptions.

The little toy terrier managed to survive the viscous bites of the German Shepherd. My niece adored the dog. She only had one problem. The dog was overly attached to her. She joined her father for grocery shopping trips, and the dog always wanted to go with them. My brother refused to take him, and the dog barked up a storm. The toy terrier felt so lonely it indulged in obnoxious whiney behavior, and cry as if it was dying. I’m not exaggerating. It cried through the middle of the night.when they went away to all night party gatherings. In the toy terrier’s case, another playmate would have been nice.

My brother and niece loved their toy terrier, and treated him very good. I am not criticizing them. They gave Buster a lot of attention, and understood their pet was one that needed a lot of love and attention. They were satisfied to take the place of breeding companionship. People have to be very careful what kind of dogs they choose. They may justify keeping the dog solitary because it is attached to them, but it’s cruel if they’re constantly leaving the dog at home, and not paying attention to it. I think it’s cruel that they don’t at least get their pet a companion. At least my brother took his toy terrier for car rides.

Several years ago, I enjoyed swimming in my back yard. I loved watching our two family dogs chase each other. Fluffy, a border collie and Sandy, a golden retriever, looked happy and healthy.
