Although a favorite at Halloween time, slime is one of those playthings that kids just cannot seem to get enough of, slime is great on any calendar day. So if your kids are bored, dig into the kitchen cupboard, and pull out the ingredients you will need to make a kid safe oozing bowl of slippery old slime. It really is not a very hard thing to do and it takes only minutes to prepare.
There are a number of slime recipes out there, and that are labeled as safe for personal use, but many of these same slime recipes contain a common household product known as borax. A number of countries, including the United States, have banned Borax within food products. It has some pretty worrying side effects that come connected to it so putting it in a product that a child might put into his or her mouth is more than a little scary. The safety of our kids comes first above anything else, and for this reason, I am going to show you how to make slime without using borax as one of it's ingredients. There are much safer recipes out there and these are the ones which I will be sharing with you today.
Basic Cornstarch Slime Recipe: The perfect Halloween slime.
1 cup water
1 cup cornstarch
Your choice of food coloring
1. Now put your cornstarch into a medium sized bowl. Add your water, and mix it together with either a fork, or your fingers. If your slime seems to be too runny then add more cornstarch into it.
2. Now decide what color of slime you want? Green for the basic snotty type slime. Red for blood, or blue for water type slime stuff. Equal drops of red and green will give you a color that looks a lot like poo. You choose whatever color of slime is right for you, and then pop a couple of drops of your chosen food coloring into your slime, and then mix it in. It is that easy to do.
3. To make your slime a darker color, just add a couple more drops, till you get the color that you want.
Metamucil Fiber Slime Recipe:
1 teaspoon Metamucil fiber
1 cup water
A couple of drops of your choice of food coloring.
1. Stir the water and Metamucil together in a microwave safe bowl. Put in microwave on high heat for 3 minutes.
2. Stir the gunk. Put it back into the microwave and let it cook on high again for another 3 minutes.
3. Add your food coloring in. Green for slime. Red for bloody goo. If you want to make poo, well you know what to do, just mix together equal amounts of red and green.
Edible Green Slime:
32 ounce container of plain yogurt
20 ounce can crushed pineapple with juice
3 ounce package instant pistachio pudding mix
1. Put your pudding mix into a large bowl.
2. Add in your pineapple and yogurt. Then mix them all together with a fork.
