Don't Let Bugs Spoil Your Picnic...

It is never to soon to start planning for that summer fun, so lets plan now to have a good summer. And also, there may be things that you may use now, (yes in the dead of winter), that can help make being inside or out more 'insect' friendly: I don't think that insects really have a clue what season it is anyway...whether you are on the slopes of Colorado or in the Land of Disney, you have followers.  So, just include most of your tossed salad spices and seasoning and you are covered.

So, here are a few simple but effective tips to help you enjoy your summer outdoor fun, without fighting unwanted pests and insects. Really it all starts indoors. You first need to know what it is that attracts flies, mosquitos, ants and bees. Avoid lotions or creams that makes these pests see you as a fruit, tree or flower. That's right, the first thing is to avoid any fancy smelling creams, lotions or ointments, even in your sunscreen. There are some creams and lotions that have built in insect repellant that are all natural. For example, cucumber, menthol, witch hazel, baking soda, vinegar, peroxide and a simple saline solution that is made up with epson salt. Simply rub or wash down with these before going outside. You may need to reapply periodically, but it will be well worth it.
If you miss that opportunity, there are things you can do to relieve the itch, redness, rash and irritation, that is caused by insects. Some of the most common and cost effective are some of the same things you would use first before going outside (listed above). To remove bee stingers, a solution of vinegar and baking soda works wonders. To relieve the itch of any poisonous plants, (oak, sumac, ivy), treat the affected area with canned milk, salt and vinegar, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar or rub the area with an irish potato that has been sprinkled with salt, (epson).

There are many more summer tips, that will help you enjoy your time outdoors. Just check your cabinets. Winter or summer fun can be bug-free and worry-free if you are armed with your own defense.

Wouldn't you rather be out having fun, winter or summer, instead of self medicating the bites, stings and what ever else little nasty creeters can cause...Have a great bug-free time.
