Does He find it necessary to show His people miracles in this day and age, or were they used mainly during Bible times?
I believe that miracles happen every day. The problem is not that God doesn't want to perform miracles, but that we take them for granted, not recognizing them for what they are when they happen.
When we think of miracles, sometimes we tend to think of the stories that make the news. The major events that make us think "Yeah, right - as if I'd be so lucky." However, God knows what we need at each exact moment of our lives. This means that He might choose to get our attention with a miracle of might proportion, worthy of new articles and interviews, or He just might do something miraculous and so small, it's just enough to tell others about, praise the Lord, and yet retain humility through it all. Those smaller, but definitely not the least of all miracles are of the every day variety.
It's true that miracles are needed to get our attention, but to what extent? Do we have to be in constant prayer? Or are we supposed to be at an all-time low for miracles to occur? That depends. Hebrews 11:1 says "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This means that if you're struggling to make ends meet with someone who seems impossible - by faith you can expect a miracle. In fact, with any part of our lives in which we are battling, by faith we can look to miracles, and the Lord is not slack in hearing and knowing the every need of His children.
It doesn't matter if you're facing a natural disaster or if you're simply bogged down with too much work. There is nothing that is too great or too small in the way of miracles that the Lord can't do. And maybe the word "miracle" is askew in definition, to make us assume one thing and overlook another. Perhaps it should be thought of along the lines of answered prayer or the blessing of deliverance.
