Poetry: Self-awareness

-3:00 A.M.-

At 3:00 A.M. The world is at its
closest to tranquility, sirens in the distance
Empty streets, bars are closing down
And the only immediate sounds are
The insects singing their lonely songs
Exhaling and inhaling deep, and
The short burn at the end of the night's
Last cigarette

The dew sets in, moistening mother Earth's
Surface, watering the little things in life
Only to be torched away in the torrid, morning
Sun, gleaming off of windows and concrete

It is at 3:00 A.M. that the evening settles in
And the mind is on burning edge, creating the
Ideal setting for creating, a psychological
Autopilot that is inspiration.
And cool jazz sooths just to maintain sanity
Until the body dies and the mind hibernates

I live for 3:00 A.M. as it is my time
To live at my highest, to reach my full
Potential as a human being, my fullest
Sympathies, the true raw self
To know me is to know
3:00 A.M.
