How to improve your writing ability is a conundrum for which millions of would be writers would be prepared to pay a small fortune for any form of solution or definitive answer. The reality of course is that there can never be a magical solution to how to improve your writing ability, as different writers have different levels of ability and different aspects of their writing in which they may tend to fall short in terms of ability.
The first and most important way in which to try to improve your writing ability is to keep on writing. The act of writing is very often the very best way to learn all the required techniques in being a successful writer and practise can very often make perfect in this respect. It is vital, however, that as one produces more and more material, time is taken to read back over it with a self-critical eye and identify any areas in which shortcomings are perceived. When these shortcomings are identified, ways in which to address them can much more effectively be determined.
How to improve your writing ability can also very much be about reading works of a nature similar to which you produce which have been written by other writers. You should take the time to not only read these works but consider how these writers achieve effects with which you perhaps struggle and while not deigning to copy the techniques employed by your peers, at least learn from them and how they can be adapted to suit your own compositions.
When seeking to improve your writing ability, it is very often necessary to seek the opinion of one or more third parties. There are a great many ways in which this process may be tackled but it is perhaps best in the first instance to seek the opinion of a good friend or family member. The person chosen in this respect should be someone knowledgeable enough to be likely to be capable of providing a balanced and informed opinion and one who is not likely to be blinkered by their relationship with you in terms of providing an honest critique. Third parties are likely to pick up on points which the writer may not, regardless of how many times they peruse their own work.
How to improve your writing ability is also very much about attitude. It is important not to become despondent when things do not appear to be going well. You have to maintain faith in your own ability to ultimately produce writing of the required standard, or alternatively, be prepared to abandon any prospects of a career in writing and move on to something to which perhaps your talents and abilities are more suited.
