How article writing benefits a writer will largely be determined by the genre of the material which the individual writer produces and the long term ambitions of the writer. There are a number of ways in which a writer can benefit from article writing, however, which can be made to apply in the majority of circumstances.

The first way in which article writing can benefit a writer is in that it can assist the writer in learning how to write in a fashion which will meet with commercial success. Writing is like a great many other activities in that the best way to learn how to write is to actually write. This means that the short nature of articles allows the writer to hone their skills while they are actually publishing written material and allows them at the same time to judge the levels of approval and success with which their compositions meet. Provided that the writer is willing to learn from these results, article writing can benefit the writer by allowing them to alter their style or approach as and when required in order to improve their level of success.

Article writing can also benefit a writer by allowing them to earn money from their writing as they seek to learn the intricacies of their chosen vocation. Very often, the level of income generated from article writing can serve as a measure of the writer’s success and be used in conjunction with any feedback they may receive or any specifically measured performance rating for their articles to more closely measure their progress. Every tool which can be employed in this respect is of course beneficial to the forming of the bigger overall picture.

The writer can also very effectively build a name for themselves and their writing by the writing of articles. It is vital to the long term success of any writer that they build up a fan base and that they become known in the literary circles relevant to the type of writing which they produce. If a writer is seen to be producing quality articles on their chosen subject, more people are likely to seek out their work when they perhaps move on to what are perceived to be bigger and better things.

Article writing therefore benefits a writer in a great many ways, particularly where the writer is in the early stages of their career. By learning how to produce quality articles which meet with critical and commercial success, the writer can effectively use the article writing process as a stepping-stone in the furthering of their writing career.
