Am Thierry Henry, the game is on fire, I love my country and my country loves me, all the European giants have made it to the world cup except us, we definitely have to make it. Lets now move a little closer to the action; I have the ball, France has the ball, am in that box, I can smell the goal, it's cramped with defenders, oh no! Am losing the ball, it's going out, I can't reach it with my leg, what would you do?
Even if that were not the case, I would say Henry has finally done "The Crazy But Filled With Genius Deed" majority of soccer's greats do when they are finally at the top. Maradona used "The hand of God", Zidane used "The head butt", Eric Cantona made use of "The flying kick". My theory is that all great soccer players reach a level at which they are too good such that their bodies are pushed to invent new ways of using the ball, or simply they get tired of soccer rules they have adhered to all their lives and hence invent their own, the other option is that they have achieved so much that they no longer care so much about their image on pitch. Henry has won it all, World Cup, Champions League, Club World Cup, Premier League, Spanish League etc, The list is long.
He is so used to winning that his body is pushed to do anything to win but with genius. It takes guts and sheer brilliance to do such a thing seconds to the end of a qualifying game to the world cup, only a soccer genius would attempt such a stunt and pull it off. So all soccer greats are prone to such a mistake and this should be considered in his case for he is a soccer genius.
Banning him from the world cup is like blaming him for his creativity. It's not his fault the error wasn't seen.If the case of banning him were to go through it should also apply to people who commit other fouls because a handball is just another foul though much sentiment is attached to it.
Yes, the FIFA board was right to punish him for his crazy act but all those French citizens who were not happy with what he did are ungrateful and self righteous. What he did is a foul which is the same as somebody tackling a player roughly to prevent him from scoring or diving in the penalty box to get a penalty kick. He loves his team enough to do the dirty work. In spite of all that; mission accomplished, France is in 2010 world cup and that will be in records for a very long time to come.

The simple answer to this question is no. Before people come at me with "He was a cheat", "You're condoning his behavior"
