Poetry: Believing

by Gary Lewis

Created on: January 04, 2010

I would prefer to believe in Jesus and God,
than at the end of my life to be remiss.
When at last I shake this earthly sod,
should the great  “I am”  in truth  exists.

To choose not to believe before final sleep,
and find I have placed my faith in mist.
When I am counted as chaff and not as wheat,
to discover too late God does exist.

On the glorious day the dead are raised,
to find my soul cast down and lost.
As the heavenly host sing God be praised,
I see what the wants of my flesh have cost.

Looking back across the gulf to unreachable bliss,
cast into the lake with the Angel of Light.
With his millions of minions, my fate is this,
my earthly desires have caused my plight.

So, you see my friends our doom is not sealed,
if we reject our false gods and objects of lust.
So in the end our fate repealed,
before these bodies are turned to dust.

Ask forgiveness of the Lord above,
repent of your sins and admit your wrongs.
Believe in the redemption, of Jesus’ love,
give praise to the Lord in prayers and songs.
