Things you do at work that can lead to getting fired

If you find yourself being more careless at work or taking risks by searching for a new job on the internet, be aware, because you can be leading yourself to the company door with security by your side. Reckless behavior is just one way to get you out of a job. But, here are a few other ways that can get you fired as well.

Performance

The days begin to become long and tedious because you find the work you are doing unimportant and unsatisfying. Therefore, your work and your performance start to suffer. Managers notice the lack of effort which can not only create much tension between the subordinate and management, but can ultimately affect the company's bottom line. Project deadlines are being missed, sales quotas are not met and the quality of customer service with clients is substandard.  You need to rethink at this point your attitude towards the job. You need to realize that the steady decline of your performance can result in termination and therefore leaving you without any job and possibly poor references.

Tardiness or Missing Work

How many times in one year have you called off work due to illness and was really sick? Or how often are you arriving late to work? Do you find yourself making up excuses to management about being late and not coming to work? Your excuses will run out and so will that paycheck.  In other words, your integrity has now been compromised because of your disinterest in your job. Once again, is it really worth it to test management by deceiving them?  You need to make the effort  to be prompt for work and come to work every day to keep yourself in good standing with the company.

 Too Much Socializing

Friendships that develop at work can last a long time. You spend eight hours or more a day with co-workers and they become like family. However, do your friendships interfere with your work? You need to keep in mind that you are in the workplace on company time. You are not getting paid to chat with the office staff all day.  The conversations should be kept to a minimum and remember that office gossip can cause many conflicts which could lead to firings.

 Internet Usage

As an employee, you need to remember the computer is company property and whatever is on your internet history can be looked at any time. The internet should always be utilized as a work tool not a place to do all your shopping while you are on break or even if you’re bored. Some companies may allow for their employees to play games or look at social networking sites during breaks and lunch hour. However, do not take advantage of this benefit by spending all your time on these sites.

These are just some ways to get fired and out of a job. The economy still hasn’t fully recovered, so take your job seriously or someone else will.
