weight as 'Jane', this is too much food, I'm starving, I had to attend a party, there was a birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc. I make sure to address all complaints and have my students tell me at least two positive things. I stress over and over again that dieting (I hate that word) is only as hard as you make it. If you think it's hard, you're right. I stress that being nice to yourself is imperative. I stress determination to reach their goals along with a positive attitude is half the battle.
I know it's not really THAT easy but trust me when I say that what you think about, you bring about. I hold myself and my weight loss (120 lbs. and kept off for 4 1/2 year so far)up as an example and remind my ladies that we are only human and we're gonna hit a few speed bumps along the way. Falling off your diet for one meal or one snack or one day is not a disaster, unless you make it so! I teach what I call the Scarlett O'Hara School of Philosophy: "Tomorrow is another day!" Just get back on the plan the very next meal.
I use my personal experience and expertise (I'm also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer) to educate my ladies to become weight loss experts in their own right. I often say that when I'm done with them in six weeks that they should be able to teach someone the plan.
Ultimately it's how you view yourself that dictates your success, not just with weight loss, but with anything you strive toward. You have to love and praise yourself to success. You have to believe you are capable and worth of success.
And you know what? You are!
