Betrayal

I still see the pictures in my mind
Those I should have never seen
My love went away in a mere twenty minutes
When I felt there was absolutely no limit
I saw the worst and couldn't believe it
The world turned cold and unkind

I lost part of my soul that day
My love I though faithful went astray
My life spun out of control in this way
The great joy I had in my life went away
My heart cried bitter tears of abandon
Leaving my own private smoke of Sodom

He said I was the only one he desired
My mind was bright, my heart on fire
He left me alone and lived out a lie
I lost a friend and love asking why
So many times, not reaching a conclusion
How could I believe such an illusion?

I asked God: "Why them, why me?
Were they so blind they couldn't see?"
God said: "This is your lesson: rejection -
But it was for your own protection!"
God and the angels had to intervene
Otherwise worse things I would have seen

So my life is now in Jesus' hands
Only one pair of footprints in the sand
He carries me through on golden wings
He's with me showing me better things
I thank you, Lord, and humbled I pray:
"Lead me, keep me, love me!

I know you'll never betray!"
