As an author or writer, the advantages of blogging are endless. Blogging is a tool, a craft that needs to be refined. Finding your niche, you will write about the things you know and enjoy sharing. If you write Romance novels then you are going to do a blog about romantic things. So people can become accustomed to your style of writing, and look forward to it. You will create a host of followers who will connect to you on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and MSN or Yahoo Chats.
Developing followers takes a lot of work. You will want to start on Blog Catalog where you list your websites and people choose to follow your RSS Feed, or become a friend. You have a shout box where you can post little notes to your followers and vice versa. It is also a great place to post the url to your website and draw traffic to your site. What you do is visit someone’s site, post a comment with your blog url and they return the favour. You will find like-minded blogs and people who promote yours because they like it.
If you do some mini blogging on twitter in your tweets, people will automatically want to start following you because they find your tweets amusing or informative. Some people love to post sayings of virtue and words of wisdom. While this is educational, it is not very personal. It is always a good idea to do some personal tweets to your followers, check their tweets, see what they are discussing and join in. Not only will they reply to your tweets, but also some of their followers will start to follow you and your blogs.
Blogging generates interest to millions of viewers, especially if you know where to post or promote your sites. Facebook is a great place to gather friends and find people that share similar interests. You can join groups and promote your blogs in the forums or chats. If you have a niche for writing and can teach others good writing skills, then you want to join a forum that talks about manuscripts, novels, short stories or poetry. You will not only find new writers, but seasoned ones who are willing to share their wisdom when it comes to publishers, literary agents and placing a novel in the right kind of genre.
Word Press, Blogger, Squidoo are all free sites that can be used for blogging. Another way to promote your blogs is by making YouTube videos about the things you blog about. Like pictures of Daniel Radcliffe, a fan made video
