Swift's "Fearless" to be No.1 album of the year
2009 was indeed a dream for Susan Boyle as industry prognosticators project her album to sell about 150,000 to 160,000 for the last week of 2009, landing her the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the sixth straight week.Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" has been quickly catching up to Taylor Swift's "Fearless" for top selling album of 2009.Now with just one week that hasn't been audited as yet, it looks as though the Scottish-bred, Boyle may fall just a bit short of the aforementioned honour.
What Boyle achieved is considered by many, better than that of Swift, such that she had shocked the world with her rise to fame on the hit UK show, "Britain's Got Talent".Many think that Swift's fame was achieved because of the Kanye West controversy at the 2009 Mtv Video Music awards with the rant about Beyonce having "one of the best videos of all time".The controversy could have led to her sudden rise in album sales.
Currently, year to date sales (audited by NielsenSoundScan) stand at 3,157,000 for Taylor's "Fearless" and 2,982,000 for Boyle's "Dream".With "Fearless' " projection slated to be around 65,000 to 75,000, it looks like the gap between the albums will be spanned, giving Swift the honour of top selling album of 2009.Taylor Swift's "Fearless" has reached the certification of 5 times platinum by the ARIA.A feat most artists are currently finding very hard to reach.
So far the best selling albums of 2009 are (as of December 25):
1.Taylor Swift, Fearless, 2,694,000
2.Susan Boyle, I Dreamed A Dream, 2,540,000
3.Michael Jackson, Number Ones, 2,227,000
4.Lady Gaga, The Fame, 1,846,000
5.Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana: The Movie, 1,740,000

9.Jay Z, The Blueprint 3, 1,393,000
