Poetry: The Earth

by Alan Watson

W A T E R F A L L

Mere instruments seek the view

Of a ‘fall, ‘till now restrained;

The icemelt, which knows those few,

Will serve a destiny, quietly contained

There can be no real control

When trying to time a sighting seen,

But the first and final fulfilment

Dictates the line between

When a spring is released,

Flowing down sloping ground,

She sees a similarity, seeded

Inside her subconscious, unfound

She is one of a multitude,

Now aware of changing climates,

Peoples, with the Flood imbued;

Deeply hidden, in the primates

Earthly tomorrows herald guilt,

If our selves, ‘till now underlain,

Are to wear the world, back to origins

Where seasons begin again
