While I wouldn't use the term "battle" in life coaching. I would use the term succeed. You see a life coach is part of your success team. A life coach is someone that will advocate for you, hold you accountable and suggest new ways to thinking about old problems. Your life coach will help you tame your ADHD and create the life you want to lead.
When you think about coaches, an image of Brad Childress or Tony Dungy may come to mind. These are great coaches for professional football teams with great players. They help their players to succeed in football and sometimes off the football field. That is exactly how you should view your life coach. This person is someone you trust to help you succeed with your ADHD. They will help you find accommodations at work to get that next promotion or at school to graduate. Your life coach can be of utmost importance in your life just as Brad Childress is important in Brett Favre's career.
So now let's think about ADHD and the challenges you face everyday. One common challenge for those with ADHD is time management. Your coach can help you think about different ways to ensure you are utilizing your time effectively. Your coach may suggest a calendering option that is specific to your needs. It may be that every task you have to complete gets a slot on your calendar and your job is to notice whether you have allotted enough time for completion. It may be that you will spend fifteen minutes per hour doing a task to see how long it takes to complete the task. With coaching you are an active participant and are able to tell your coach what is working and what isn't working. A coach suggests ideas, your homework is to try the ideas and see what sticks for you. Every person is different so what works for someone else may not work for you. This is okay. The goal with coaching is to find your specific accommodations and help you succeed.
The main thing is that you need to trust your coach. Interview coaches and find one that you feel comfortable sharing thoughts. You need to understand that ADHD doesn't mean you aren't able to have success in life. You can do anything. Hey if Howie Mandel has it and can run a game show, then you can achieve your dreams too. A life coach is there to help you on your journey but you are the sole person in the driver's seat of life.
