When we choose a name for our children we are very careful that we pick the right name, the name that is special and that is very much like by other people, like wise when we choose a name for most anything. There is one thing that we need to consider when thinking about name choosing, will the name of our boat, airplane, car, statute, park, school, etc cause some one to become upset or how will you be thought of?  When we have people that get upset when we close our head and pray over our meal in a restaurant; in school, or if we give thanks to the Lord for a blessing, or if the name of the Lord is mentioned at work.

The Native Indians were here first this was their land and we stick the name Native American on them as if they need to be made known that they live in America. To use there name as mascot is just wrong and shows no respect for the people who has every right to this land as the next person. When the names like Redskin is used to describe them in this day and age is just wrong as the N word being used to describe a black person.

Do we realize what we are teaching our children, where we should be teaching love and respect, we are teaching hate and disrecpet. When little children are calling each other out of their names on the play ground and there is no playing going on, what is happening to their childhood. We worry about television and rap songs teaching the wrong things to our children, when in fact it is us that is teaching them these things. I think that if we put ourselves in the shoes of the Indians that would make us stop and think about what we are doing to this group of people that we target.

We must understand that Indians have feelings like most people and I'm sure that they don't feel good about having a names like Redskins attached to them and then put up on some high school and a picture of the head of an Indian next to it. When and how will we every stop this madness call race ism. We like to think that we are a country that have come far away for such a thing as racism and yet we haven't. Maybe some may think that it keeps the life of the Indians alive or maybe they think it is a nice tribute to do such a thing. We have to take a long look at what we are doing and at ourselves before we use another race to make our day.
