Poetry: An autumn walk

Autumn Stroll


Wind whispers and whistles wistfully

As it carries the coolness of the morn.

Signor Marucci’s “Buon Giorno” fainted

Behind monotone clangs,

Somberly chiming the hour.

Earthy scent of decay, fragrances the air,

Mourning a season’s passing.

Crispy, crunching, scuffling, shuffling boot heels

Tousle loose leaves that have bid farewell to their strong arms.

Undressed, unabashed leafless limbs,

Cradle swollen bulbs from a citrusy sweet past.

Rolling knolls and mounds looming in the distance

Adorned with hues of comfort warmth,

Textured reds, ambers, plums and browns,

Embedded against the evergreens

Like a Monet high on Autumn.




Inspired by the Northeastern Italian town I've been fortunate to live in for the last several years...
