Car reviews: 2010 Aston Martin DB9

Aston Martin, a name synonymous with style, comfort, power and precision to anyone with an interest in cars. Looks wise, there are few who can match the beauty of an Aston Martin, and the positives don’t stop there. Beyond its superficial elegance, Aston Martins are thoroughbred, high performance, super cars. Most people who lay their eyes on one, or who have the privilege of driving one, will wish to own one.

Aston Martin return with their DB9 model in 2010. When it comes to beauty, the DB9 is still unrivalled in the motor world. Little, if anything has changed in the way it looks for the latest model and there is good reason for that. Just look at one to understand why. The Aston Martin DB9 is the quintessential British GT car.

Whilst the DB9 can not compete with the edgy, hardcore nature of Ferrari or the over-the-top, flamboyancy of Lamborghini, it does find itself being regarded as one of the most sought after cars of modern times. As mentioned above its sleek exterior and styling is jaw-droopingly gorgeous and its engineering is second to none.

The interior of the DB9 is also a masterpiece. Featuring a somewhat customisable silver and wood panel finish, this interior oozes class and sophistication. There are no corners cut when it comes to the quality of the materials used inside either, everything feels solid and well put together.

Containing a 5.9 Litre V-12 under its hood, the Aston Martin DB9 powers out around 470bhp and will reach speeds of up to 190mph. It truly looks fantastic whilst it leaves onlookers in the dust. Like the more powerful DBS, the DB9 is rear-wheel drive and features either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The difference between the aforementioned models is the floppy-paddle gearbox of the DB9 which still has room for improvement.

The fuel economy of the car is typically that of fast cars: not great. It will range from 10mpg to around 20 depending on where you are driving it and how fast you are going. As one would also expect with a car of such high performance and high class, the price is rather high.

Cheaper than the beastly DBS, the DB9 still commands a steep price tag. Thrown in with the price are numerous customisable features concerning the exterior and interior which is a nice little bonus. Starting from around 115,000 pounds and working up to around 125,000 pounds, this car is still considerably cheaper than the equivalent Ferrari or any of the super cars. There is no doubt, however, that you are getting what you pay for with this particular auto.

The Aston Martin DB9 is a legend in the industry. The smooth, flowing lines of its exterior are entrancing, its interior is perfectly styled and its engineering and manufacturing is flawless. This car is the epitome of what cars can be and what every auto company tries to achieve. Yes, it may not be as fast as a super car, and it may not have the outlandish nature of a super car, but when you’re driving it, you won’t care one bit.
