Opened in 1967, Six Flags over Georgia is located near Atlanta in suburban Austell, off Interstate 20 on the west side of Atlanta.
The park is the Southeast’s biggest regional theme park and features thrill rides, shows, children’s activities, shopping and food. The seasonal park opens annually from March through October.
Six Flags boasts 10 roller coasters, two themed children’s areas, Thomas Town and Bugs Bunny World, and it has four interactive water rides to cool down visitors on hot summer days.
For the kids
Six Flags Over Georgia provides “40 Fun Things for Kids to Do,” consisting of parent-approved and kid-friendly activities to keep children under 54 inches tall busy at the park while parents relax. Colorful and safe, the eye-catching themed areas are designed to give little ones a place where they can climb, ride, explore, and meet their favorite Looney Tunes characters.
The park’s all-new Monster Mansion opened in 2009, where playful monsters and interactive elements provide plenty of surprises to mansion visitors. There is also an historic classic carousel that all ages will enjoy.
For the adults
For thrills, try one or more of Six Flags’ 10 roller coasters. In its nearly four-minute ride, the Goliath coaster whips through two 17-story drops at speeds approaching 70 miles per hour.
Other thrill rides include Batman: The Ride; Superman: Ultimate Flight; The Great American Scream Machine; the Ninja; Acrophobia; Fearless Freeps Dare Devil Dive; the Mind Bender; the Georgia Cyclone; and the Georgia Scorcher.
A Flash Pass is the park’s ride reservation system that prevents waiting in long lines for the most popular rides.
Themes within the theme park
Themed sections at the park include Batman’s Gotham City, Cotton States, Peachtree Square, as well as the Georgia, USA and British sections. Each section features themed architecture, rides, shops and food that are in keeping with the section’s name.
Food for all
Be sure to come to Six Flags Over Georgia hungry. You can snack at Ben & Jerry’s, Old South Confectionary or Cold Stone Express. For a full meal, choose from such dining establishments as Johnny Rockets, Deejay’s Diner, Miss Dixie’s Depot, Papa John’s Pizzeria, Gotham City Eatery or Panda Express.
Of note
A few reminders: Smoking at Six Flags Over Georgia is only permitted in designated areas, so refer to park signage. Since refunds and rain checks are not offered, be aware that some rides or shows could close due to rain or wind, but will reopen when the weather permits.
Special events run throughout the season and include top-name entertainers, daily children’s concerts, parades and Fright Fest, which runs during weekends in October and dresses up the entire park for Halloween.
