My beautiful butterfly,
away you flew,
into that vineyard ,
unaware of those thorns,
that stood by your way.
I tried my best,
to give you the best,
when you left without a word,
I turned back to see what when wrong,
day and night I prayed,
to the holy Queen,
for my butterfly's safety return.
You have flown and left me alone,
where am I to look for you?
nothing made things as they were.....until yesterday,
as I cleaned the garage ………..I came across,
the dust on your wooden cradle in the garage,
your faded orange mittens,
your worn out Barbie dolls,
ballet shoes,
cheerleader uniforms,
and finally that graduation album,
reminded me how time had sailed.
Your once soft jelly-like little fingers brought me down to Earth,
I would run away from work to be on time,
just to change your diapers,
hug you during times of thunder,
watch you with pride in my eyes at that ballet competition,
got you ready for your prom night,
I made sure the salt on my wounds,
would only appear in your food.
I sensed,
uneasiness without your high heels walking up the steps,
loneliness without hearing your chatter in the phone with a friend past midnight,
boredom without needing to pick up your handbag thrown on the sofa,
some things happen,
you won't understand,
neither can I.
Perhaps while tying your little pony tails with that pink ribbon,
made me thankful to the holy Mother,
for giving me you,
eighteen years ago,
in that orphanage named after Her.
My beautiful butterfly,
listen to me,
wherever you go, whoever you met,
be who you are,
and don't stay out late night.
