If Hollywood loves anything, it’s the humble Remake (or Re-imagining). The script is already written and approved, it will have an already-established fanbase and you can see what did and didn't work at the time, usually technical limitations that you can address in a more modern and sophisticated era. The games industry is catching up, but usually picks some very odd if not awful choices to remake.
So, which games should be remade? I could make up some random system to judge which titles are worthy, but in reality that's not going to work. Mainly because I would end up choosing games I personally do not like. Instead, here are my personal favourite five classic games that should be remade and redelivered to a new audience. These are classic games that are universally loved and fans repeatedly request their rebirth, and would not fail the developers at any point. Guaranteed sure-fire hits. Honourable mentions at the end, of course.
5. Dynamite Headdy (Sega Genesis/Retro Collections)
I have previously stated my undying affection for this game so it was going to make my own personal top five, but the potential for reinvention here is unbelievable. The concept is fantastic - you play Headdy. You are a puppet in a puppet show world. Your head isn't attached to your shoulders, which saves you from being turned into an evil minion, you escape and set about using your solid bonce to rid the land of evil minions. Every scene, every act and every single joke ties into some of the biggest movie franchises out there, and there has been fifteen years of more big-name movies that Dynamite Headdy could spoof as well. From Terminate Her Too, to Twin Freaks and Clothes Encounters, every subtle joke and every boss fight makes you smile. It's a brilliant, insane game with so much to love that it would be a criminal offence to not remake this game - at the very least, an HD port onto the PS3 or X-Box 360 would be nice!
4. Eternal Darkness (Gamecube)
The most modern title on this list, Eternal Darkness is a horror game like none other. The horror here comes in the Lovecraft-style storytelling, the subtle effects as the sanity gauge slips away and you realise your character is indeed going quite mad. The game even proceeds to mess with YOUR head, making it look like the TV has turned off, or you've finished the game way too early, or simply telling you that it's deleted your save files. But the game itself handles well, it's hardly the best-looking thing (especially when you
