Three large snowballs, a carrot for a nose, a couple of rocks for eyes and the mouth…there you have a snowman. Yes, you do have a snowman but you are a very boring person with no imagination. A snowman can be made so many different ways that no snowmen should ever have to be alike. But where should you start? Let’s start with the basics and make the body of the snowman itself.
*Three Piece Snowmen
Even though it is the most common type of snowman it can also be the hardest to put together. To put it simply, it is much easier to draw a three piece snowman on paper then to actually make out of snow.
To start you need to make the base, you start by making a snowball in your hands and roll it around in the snow so that it gets bigger. The ball will not automatically form it will instead start looking like a giant jelly roll. When this happens you need to start rolling it a different direction so that the snow compacts on the side that resembles a jelly roll.
When you get the base to the size you want it, roll it to the location where you are going to display the snowman. Also, keep in mind that you have two more snowballs to stack on top of this base snowball so don’t make it so big that you will not able to complete your snowman, snow gets pretty heavy when packed together. Once the base is in place, rub the base snowball with your gloved hand in a clockwise and counter clockwise direction to smooth out the snow and give it round ball shape appearance.
Repeat the above steps with the next two snowballs just make the second snowball 50% smaller then the bottom one and then make the third snow ball the size of a head. Once you get all three snowballs in place you may want to pack snow in between the snowballs to make them more secure.
*One Piece Snowmen
If you have ever seen the movie “Meet me in St Louis” with Judy Garland you have already seen this type of snowman before. To make a one piece snowman you create a large compact pile of snow to the height and width that you want your snowman to be. After you get your pile together use a flat instrument, such as a butter knife, to create the shape of your snowman. You can make it into the common three tiered shape or you can get more creative and give your snowman legs and arms down its side.
*Two Piece Snowmen
A much easier version
