One night I dreamt that I was alone
There was no sign that you had even been there with me
I never wanted to be on my own
But it looked like I had to do it with no one but me.

I closed my eyes and hoped that somehow you would reappear
Time seemed to take forever to pass, and you never came
I wondered if I had been alone all along, if you had never even been here

I realized that I was the only one to blame.

I laid there for hours, having no reason to get up, but finally I did
And I wandered to the window and looked down
The city went on for miles, I felt so small in a world so big
Useless as a single drop of rain in a gray storm cloud.

I wondered what went wrong, it wasn’t supposed to be like this
You were supposed to be with me forever
How could things go so far amiss?
I never would have thought this could happen, ever.

When I opened my eyes, tears blurred my vision
When they cleared, you were sleeping next to me.
From then on, I vowed to make you my mission
So I wouldn’t have to be alone, so you would stay with me.

I open my eyes, and you always reappear
Time goes by slowly now, and you are always with me
I knew you would been here all along, that you would always be here
I realized you would never leave me.
