The Droid is today hyped as the ultimate iPhone killer, for its amazing features and smartphone tweaks. Stacking up the two phones against one another, one can find plenty of differences between the Droid and the iPhone.
Design and Build
The Droid shows up as the heavier option vis-à-vis the iPhone, weighing at 169 grams as compared to iPhone’s 135 grams. While the face of the screen is more or less the same, the Droid has a thicker staid design compared to the iPhone, which is slim, light and elegant. The Droid has a full QWERTY keyboard in addition to a virtual one.
The dimensions of Droid are on a slightly larger side at 115.8 x 60 x 13.7 mm while the iPhone measures 115.5 x 62 x 12.3 mm.
Touchscreen Display
At anytime, the Motorola Droid has a huge crisp display that cannot match the iPhone. At 3.7 inches, the whopping display of Motorola’s Droid rivals the 3.5 inch one of iPhone. The awesome 854 x 480 pixels of Droid is the highest for any mobile device, exceeding the iPhone’s 480 x 320 pixels, though the capacitive touchscreen of Droid is excelled by that of the iPhone which also supports gestures.
Operating System and Interface
The Motorola Droid runs on the Google Android 2.0 eclairs version, considered the best OS for mobile devices. The iPhone runs on the iPhone 3.1.2 OS with features like multi-touch and intuitive interface design.
Battery
The Droid has a changeable battery with an eight hour talk-time life which supercedes iPhone’s fixed battery, with 12 hours on 2G and 5 hours on 3G.
Processor speed
Working with Texas OMAP3430 ARM Cortex A8 processor clocking at 550 MHz, the Droid phone has enough speed to handle the heaviest of apps. However, the iPhone with an ARM Cortex A8 RISC processor clocking at 600 MHz is the breezier phone.
Memory
Droid is a sure winner in the memory game with a removable storage option of 16 GB micro SD card that can be enhanced to 32 GB. The absence of expansion card slot on the iPhone puts it at a disadvantage, as it has only a fixed storage of either 16GB or 32GB.
Connectivity
The Droid has a CDMA connection from Verizon Wireless that supports CDMA 1 x dual band with EVDO rev technology, in addition to Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth 2.1. The iPhone comes with a GSM / EDGE Triband and UMTS/HSDPA Triband from AT & T with 3G connectivity together with the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.
Browser
The browser on Droid comes equipped with Flash and HTML
