Movie reviews: Sex and the City: The Movie

by Hajnal Farkas

Created on: December 28, 2009

I read so many exciting reviews on Sex and the City that I decided I watch it. It is a real chick flick romantic comedy and that evening it was the perfect entertainment for me. The film was written and directed by Michael Patrick King. Actually he was the co-producer of the film as well with Sarah Jessica Parker and Darren Star.

Michael Patrick King is an American film director and screenplay writer. Besides Sex and the City he wrote the screenplay of Will & Grace, Cybill and Murphy Brown.

The film was released on 30 May 2008. The running time is 145 minutes and the classification is 15 years and older due to nudity, sexual content and strong language.

Plot:

-

Four years after the events of the series finale Carrie is a writer in New York. As Mr. Big and Carrie would like to move together they are viewing apartments. They don’t like the first apartment but the agent says that there is one in the same building which is not on the market yet. Carrie falls in love with that penthouse. It is much more expensive than they wanted to pay for their home but Big agrees to pay for it.

Carrie is concerned about her legal rights as they are not married so Big suggests to get married. It wasn’t a romantic proposal just talk about the marriage. Carrie bought herself a very simple and cheap white costume. After Vogue executive offers her an article where she is modelling in several wedding dresses a Vivienne Westwood wedding gown is given to her. Her wedding plans have changed and she plans a wedding in the Public Library with lots of friends. It will be Big’s third wedding so he starts to hesitate.

Naturally the story is not only about Carrie and Mr. Big. Samantha lives in Malibu with Smith who is a successful actor in a soap opera. He is away all day and Samantha often travels to New York to see her friends. She suffers in their seaside apartment as their neighbour is a sexy man and he and his partner often make love in the window or simply on the balcony.

Miranda can hardly cope with the family – work – social life balance. She and Steve have sex about twice a year and even then she is not so involved. She is hurt and devastated when Steve
