With the rapid and ever increasing knowledge of medical science today the chances are AIDS will be wiped out one day, whether in a year or 1000 years. There are 2 ways in which we could totally eradicate AIDS. Firstly by containing it to such a degree that it will no longer spread and eventually die out. Theoreticly this is achievable, however, it would take a world wide effort and the honesty of every human being. World leaders would need to spend much time and money on poor nations. They would need to educate every single person on the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), provide contraceptives such as condoms and supply the means to screen for STD's. Further more world leaders would have to wipeout HIV in their own countries and this requirs the compliance of every human being. Everyone would have to get themselves checked regularly for STD's and use condoms when having intercorse. Hopsitals would have to rigorously lay down full-proof guidelines on the handling of blood and blood transfusions. If everyone did comply then eventually HIV would stop spreading and eventually die out.
The other way would be to find a cure so that if somebody did contract HIV it could be stopped before it spreads or killes someone. With the speed at which medical science is evolving this does seem very possible. New light has been recently shed on killing virus'. This is mainly thanks to the threat of the H5N1 virus, as it has caused such a stir extensive research has been done on curing and preventing the spread of killer virus'. A new way to kill the virus has been discovered and works by turning the virus against itself. The reason virus' are such a threat is because of the speed at which they reproduce and infect cells. Scientists have discovered a way to utilise this phenomina by turning a virus cell itself and then using that cell to infect all the other cells turning them against themselves. This then causes a chain reaction until the virus is dead. This is currently being tested with the influenza virus and results are possitive. Scientists believe this new technology will be available by 2015 and will be able to treat all sorts of virus'.
