Exercise is a boring, tedious chore for most people. Unfortunately, it is also a necessity for most people. Exercising can be made more fun with a few simple steps that cost little to nothing and may motivate you to exercise even more. The following ideas can be implemented to make a variety of exercises more fun.
If you are taking a walk, or even going for a jog, having someone to talk to can often make the misery factor of exercising drop a few levels. Walking and talking is a great way to catch up with an old friend that you rarely have time to fit into your schedule. If you can find a friend who is particularly fit and truly enjoys exercise, walking with them will also improve your attitude toward exercise and may help you to get the desired results from your exercise routine.
Dance
Exercise does not have to be all walking, running or lifting weights. Dancing can be a great way to get some extra fitness into your day. There are a variety of fitness and exercise videos on the market today that offer exercise routines based on dancing. This is a great way to have some fun while you get even 15 or 20 minutes of exercise into your day. This is also a great exercise option that you can share with a friend. The two of you will have a great time learning new dance moves while getting in shape.
Sports Leagues
Many cities offer sports leagues for adults. Kickball, softball and ultimate frisbee are all experiencing a surge in popularity and each of these sports is a great way to get moving while having fun. Use craigslist.org or your local newspaper to find teams in your area. Between practices and games, you might be surprised at how much exercise you get and how much fun you have.
Music
Ipods (http://www.apple.com) are making listening to music while you exercise easier to do than ever. They weigh practically nothing, are simple to put in your pocket or wear on an armband, and can be easily updated and personalized. By making a playlist of your favorite songs and by changing it frequently, you have more of an incentive to go out for a walk or jog. If you work out at the gym on a machine such as a treadmill or exercise bike, then it may even be possible to watch a favorite TV show or movie on your iPod while you are working out.
Exercise is something that many people are lacking in their everyday lives. However, it is a necessity, and by making exercise more fun, anybody and everybody can benefit physically, socially, and emotionally.
