While Dylan's show may have closed after doing so poorly, I believe your reasoning is very off base, seemingly based on opinionated bias. Dylan is one of those most prolific and accomplished singer/songwriter of the 50s and 60s, and most people will agree with this. I think you'd be hard pressed to find that many people who dislike Bob Dylan. However, I believe the shows lack of success had more to do with the venue than the material. While Broadway may be the home of theatre and musicals, Dylan's music isn't exactly Broadway music. It's like trying to play a Cello Concerto in a grungy crust punk's basement, or having some awful crust punk band play Madison Square Garden for that matter. Dylan has produced some amazing music befitting of the main stage....just not Broadway's main stage. The Broadway scene isn't really meant to accommodate that kind of thing, so it should have expected to do poorly, but not because it's bad. Dylan's music and theatre are simply not meant to go so hand in hand.
