Poetry: The masks we wear

by Bonny Simon

Created on: December 27, 2009   Last Updated: December 28, 2009

Can you see the hairline crack,
running through my mask?
Its the tears you see, that did this.
Why is that? you asked.

You touched me in a way I can't explain,
a way I can't sort or process.
I spent so much time putting up this facade
and you didn't even have to press!

gently, gently you pry apart
the hard shell of my little heart
every little piece you kiss and put to one side
until whats left is searingly open wide.
