Brief History of Siamese:

He has been found in manuscripts back through 1350 and 1700, however it is likely that the breed dates even further back than this.  The Siamese cat was a guard to Buddhist temples and were kept only by Monks and The Royal Family because the Siamese was said to be a sacred cat.

Through the years the characteristics that this cat was once prized for, came to be known as flaws and were soon bred out of the Siamese breed. The small body Siamese were almost bred out because people seemed to favor the tall and lanky wedge-headed Siamese cat.  Despite the change in trends, some breeders were determined to keep the traditional apple-head Siamese and have preserved the old-styled cat.

Temperament:

This breed is truly just one of a kind. This cat is known as the most vocal breed of cats, so if you like the quiet then this cat is sure to give you a headache. People who have had the great fortune of owning a Siamese (such as myself) will often say that this breed wants so badly to really talk to them or actually does “talk” to them. They become vocal when they are happy, upset, when they play, and even in sleep.
If the Siamese is pure bred, he is very trusting and well-behaved with other animals and children. If a pure bred Siamese is annoyed they will be more likely to flick their tail and remove themselves from the situation, other than using claws or teeth.

Grooming:

The Siamese cat does shed frequently, but fortunately, a weekly brushing will help keep under control lose hairs, keep hairballs at bay and help to minimize dander.

Health Concerns:

As being an ancient breed, the Siamese is generally healthy and long lived.

The health concerns in the Siamese cat, included but aren't limited to the below.

-Susceptible to respiratory infections and pneumonia

-Feline Megacolon

-Pancreatitis

-Kidney disease

-Premature tooth loss

-Some breathing problems

These cats can be straight up demanding with their vocals. However, there are steps to take that can reduce the calls of this feline, such as, retraining. Overall this breed is a very friendly, "people" cat (though can be the epitome of a scardy-cat when it comes to strangers.) Siamese cats are very well tempered and exceedingly loving, this cat makes an excellent member of a family.
