Every prejudicial contention I have ever heard, as far as communication goes, comes from wrested interpretations of words. For the life of me, I have no idea why dictionaries even exist, “IF” we are not going to use the definition assigned to the words. The word “religion” happens to be one of those words with a wrested interpretation. It is one of the most controversial words in mankind's “made-up” vocabulary. I don't think there is much weight to any one person's two cents, but I am going to give mine anyways. So here it is:
“The short-sighted ignorance of anyone who “believes” that mankind can exist, in any way, shape, or form, without religion, is not only in denial, but is also deceived. Pitifully, I might add, as his deception is of his own doing!”
There you have it, my two cents and I am unable to “see” if anyone caught my drift there, by placing quotations around the word “believes”, but there it is in black and white. The most general definition of religion is “a belief system that one follows devotedly.” Under this general definition simply brushing your teeth daily IS a religion. After all, it is a belief system that one follows devotedly. Oh, I can hear the mockery loud and clear as I have had this argument many times with atheists who claim “I am a non-believer.” I always respond to this sort of answer with, “Hmm, do you really BELIEVE that you are a “NON” believer.” Let them think on that for awhile as I laugh my way into smugness. Okay, I have regained a bit of composure so let us proceed with dignity and grace.
Religion being a belief system always has an “object” at the center of this system. This object can be likened to a particular “purpose”. God is one purpose for sure. But as many as there are people, and have been people, and will be people, there will exist a multitude of “objects” of each individual mind's idea of purpose. Purpose gives man motive. As of yet I do not think there is any scientific evidence that motion, which is “motive” can move without motive…has any of you? Hmm, I highly doubt it. So a “belief system” becomes all people's motive to do anything and everything they do.
If you ask someone “Why did you do that” and they respond “For no reason”, they lie. But they are not lying
