Created on: December 27, 2009

Being fired from a job conjures up potentially egregious behavior. Certainly some instances of termination of employment involve blatant infractions, such as stealing from your employer.

There are some other, more subtle, behaviors that can potentially result in being fired from your job.

* Lying on your resume or job application

If you stretch the truth, exaggerate, or blatantly lie on your resume or job application, you risk the chance of being found out and fired. Even if you have been performing your job effectively for a period of time, if your embellishment of the true facts surfaces in some way, you could potentially be terminated for dishonesty.

Using the company computer for personal activities could potentially get you fired. Repeated complaints to the personnel department about your offensive behavior could label you a troublemaker and make you a candidate for being fired.

* Personal phone calls

Excessive time spent on personal phone calls will not go unnoticed by the powers that be in your company. If you are attempting to manage your personal life via the company telephone, your behavior could get you fired.

Even overindulging alcohol in the evening can have negative effects on your job. Repeated tardiness or hangovers that inhibits clear thinking are negative side effects of drinking that could potentially get you fired from your job.

* Romantic involvement at work

Becoming romantically involved with your boss or supervisor is unwise at best. Should the romantic interlude end in a negative way, the awkwardness of having you around might be impetus to fire you.
