Poetry: Unlock

by Gerry Legister

Death rode a long way,
to find me in the dream I had last night;
it glared at me with fearful eyes,
and breathe a dismal cry:

As the shadow of judgment drew near,
death changed my heart,
watched close by spirit in the atmosphere,
expecting me to fall apart.

I tremble beneath the veil of flesh,
conscience covered like a blanket on the bed;
mercy shielded my deeds, and every distress
began tumbling from my head.

The will to live unlock barriers of gloom,
 where once I had resign guilty fate;
but prayers renewed my strength again,
and open the doorway to a board gate.

I found the keyhole larger than my life,
open new reasons for a brighter start;
I am not ready to end this life,
because death has changed my heat.

Unlock the pathway to delightful treasures,
hidden manna languished within the soul;
I am full of redemptive smiles,
where death has no eternal control.

Joy now laughed away the sullen mind,
and caught a glimpse of hope inside,
unlock the moment I turn to find,
the Holy Spirit captured all my pride.
