Acyclovir also known as Acyclovir sodium, prescription name Zorivax is a prescription to treat children and adults for initial and recurring herpes out breaks (HSV-1 and HSV-2). This prescription is also used to treat chicken pox infections in children and adults. Acyclovir (Zorivax) comes in 200 mg capsules and 400 mg tablets. Hospitalization can require injections high as 500mg/vial, 1g/vial or treatment by IV of up to 200mg/5ml.
Allergic reactions to Acyclovir can be rash, itching, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some more serious allergic reactions can be lethargy, tremors, confusion, hallucinations, easily agitated, and seizures.
Adequate studies on Acyclovir for use with women that are pregnant have not been done. So talk with your physician before any treatment.
Persons with herpes should start taking Acyclovir when first signs of symptoms occur. Also, Acyclovir is not a cure for herpes or prevent the spread of herpes.
