Global warming: Is the sun to blame?

by Rick Badman

I have a friend I call Crazy Dan.  When we "discuss" the subject of global warming he tells me that man is most responsible for it and that the sun has little to do with it.  That's when I start to have fun with him and prove why I call him Crazy Dan.

I point out that the sun is thousands of times larger than that earth and that the earth is thousands of times larger than man.  Yet he is convinced that man is the main culprit.  I tell him maybe if we loaded a million rockets with water and aimed them at the sun, maybe we could cool it down.  Also, if man is most responsible for global warming, then how long have we had bases on Mars and Pluto since those two planets are also experiencing global warming.

Most people who don't understand science are gullible enough to believe man is the main reason why the earth is warmer.  Or is it cooler since 2009 has been one of the coolest years on record?  He refuses to believe anything that doesn't agree with what he believes.  Sounds like a liberal to me.  But as I say so often, just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean the facts are wrong.

Earth has experienced eras of global warming that man had nothing to do with just like there have been eras of global cooling like the Little Ice Age that occurred for a few centuries.  If global warming should have occurred with a vengeance it should have happened during WW II when carbon dioxide from planes, tanks, ships, other vehicles, and burning cities should have caused the climate to get extremely hot.  But that was not the case since winter, the greatest weapon of the Russians, helped soundly defeat Hitler and the Nazis in the Soviet Union.

Water vapor is the most prevalent greenhouse gas in the atmosphere and that is produced when the sun evaporates water and causes it to rise into the atmosphere.  Yet we can't regulate the sun and reduce evaporation caused by our star.  Methane and carbon dioxide are naturally produced by living organisms like man and animals.  Without carbon dioxide, plants won't grow and produce oxygen.  Since the EPA considers carbon dioxide a dangerous pollutant, the best way for you to prevent it from being produced is if you hold your breath and never breathe out.  That means every time you pass a cemetery, applaud the residents because they are doing their part to prevent the emission of carbon dioxide by not breathing.
