Just Squeeze It!
Black Head Prevention and Remedies by Catherine Heeran
Everyone suffers from ugly black bumps. Even Hollywood Elites have an occasional blocked pore. The question is what are blackheads? And what methods are used to eliminate them?
Ever use an egg white on blackheads followed by a hairdryer while pressing the cool button? Or, how about leaving on a band aide or scotch tape for fifteen minutes? Maybe waxing, applying honey, witch hazel, and scrubbing with baking soda are more useful and safe methods. However, there are an abundance of methods for black head removal. Both over the counter products and homemade remedies have been found most useful.
A blackhead, also known as a comedone, is a blocked sebaceous gland consisting dead skin cells, dirt and oil. Those components are the ingredients that are responsible for that ugly black lump or bump. They populate our face, neck, ears and back. The quest for smooth clear skin and their mere presence makes it easy to pick and squeeze our skin when one surfaces. However, light squeezing is recommended in order to prevent scarring.
The most advertised and easy to use products for blackheads are Biore’s Black head removal strips, mineral clay, and salicylic acid. They are wonderful products that target the pore-clogging dirt, oil and makeup. Salicylic acid works to penetrate pores and dissolve the clogs that causes clogged pores. Biore are surprisingly easy to use and are available without a prescription. They also sell for a reasonable price and have a smoothing effect.
Instead of prescriptions and spas, a less expensive approach, are natural remedies for blackheads. For instance, an egg white mask and honey are really good for your skin. Honey acts a natural peel to blackheads while moisturizing and smoothing skin. In addition, Honey has natural anti-bacterial and keeps blackheads from turning into pimples. Eggs and yogurt help eliminate blackheads by tightening skin pores. Other masks include making pastes with fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves. You must leave this on the face for 10-15 minutes every night and wash with warm water.
Thirdly, Witch hazel acts as an astringent and is applied with a cotton ball at night after applying a cleanser. Witch hazel is used over a period of time is another popular natural remedy when treating blackheads.
The most interesting natural method is reducing those little buggers with tomato and potatoes. Cutting a fresh tomato into quarters and rubbing it over your face every day can reduce blackheads over time. Potatoes must be grated as poultice to cure skin.
No matter what your main skin concern, these products and natural remedies are a great addition to your daily cleansing regimen and help improve the overall appearance and condition of your pores.
