Why is the Bible boring

It is one of the greatest books compiled from the mouths of the ancient prophets, so you might want to consider why you think the Bible is boring.  What is your purpose for reading the Bible?  What are you looking for when you read the scriptures?  The Lord counsels us to lean not to our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).  We must learn to lean on God and to ask him about those things we do not understand in the scriptures and then believe that he will answer our request for help in understanding when we seriously study the scriptures.  When Christ appeared to his disciples after his resurrection, he talked to them about the prophecies that have been recorded by the Old Testament prophets. Christ knew even his disciples did not fully understand the scriptures.  He told them all things would be fulfilled that had been prophesied and recorded by the prophets, and it was then that he helped them that they might understand the scriptures (Luke 24:45).

The scriptures contain mysterious parts, spiritual treasures, and they can only be discerned by the spirit.  The scriptures main purpose is to testify of Christ.  All of the prophets testify of Christ in their written words.  The scriptures are a testimony to us that Christ is the only begotten of the Father in the flesh, that Christ was the promised redeemer and advocate with the Father.  He is the only one we can go through to get back into Father's presence.

The Bible contains stories that deal with all human emotions.  There are stories that deal with love, deceit, joy, betrayal, anger, hate, happiness, and sorrow.  We learn of the wars of nations and the persecutions against the Christians who followed Christ‘s teachings.  We read of the blessings that come from being obedient as well as the consequences of sin.

Even the genealogy, though it is tedious to read through, was and is important, so important that when the temple was being built only those who had their family histories were allowed to work on the temple. Genealogy is so important that it is mentioned in Malachi 4:5.  That prophecy is being fulfilled today.  Many people are gathering their family histories and looking for the missing links in their family line.  They are turning their hearts to their fathers and the fathers to their children just as Malachi prophesied.

The Bible is full of symbolism and parables.  The Bible can be boring if you are just reading to say you have read the Bible. On the other hand, if you prepare yourself to read the Bible by praying and inviting the Spirit to help you understand the eternal truths that the Bible holds then you may be surprised at the end results.  When you read the story of the Samaritan woman at the well you will understand what Christ truly meant.
