Poems Without Imagery
Every poem must always have
Some imagery, I'm told.
Not just rhyme and meter,
Though those are good as gold.
I ask if assonance adds
Any value to my lines.
Yes, they say, but not enough,
It's still just fancy rhymes.
How about if I include
Enjambment for their pleasure?
Not so they hiss, they nearly hoot.
They think I'm not so clever.
I question if these critics find
Consoniteration to be of any worth
When coined by creeps like me.
Hacks like me lacking imagery
Are described as no more than fakes.
But poems stand alone, no one like another.
OK, I give up, like snow flakes.
