How to live an easier life

by Toni Doswell

Stress pounds down upon anyone who allows for their plate of affairs to be full.  One of the keys to living an easier life is not to take too much upon yourself, don't make promises that you may not keep, and give yourself plenty of time to do what you need to do.  These three things will help to keep you sane and moving along much more smoothly.

I use to make promises to do things, half of which hardly got done.  People expect for you to fulfill your words.  Otherwise, do not speak them.  We have moved from the age when a person's word was their bond.  We have moved into a busier than ever age, people hustling and bustling everywhere and really not going hardly anywhere.  We think we accomplish more by being in constant motion, but actually, we may find that we accomplish less because we leave little time for reflection, evaluation, and thinking about what we are doing.  Most people just jot down a few objectives, try to execute them, and call it a successful day.  I beg the difference- a successful day is one where you make an impact but are not stressed out in the process.

Everyone wants to make their life meaningful, from the stay-at-home mom to the executives in the corporate world.  However, both of these people have much in common.  There is work to be done.  There are schedules to be met, and there are people depending on you to do your part.  Both jobs are stressful, although I think the corporate executive would beg the difference.  On the other hand, I think you would get a very strong argument from the stay-at-home mom also.  With this in mind, the average working person, whether working for a paycheck, or working to get a task done, is under some type of stress.  In order to make your life easier, you must anticipate  the amount of energy you will need to do your job, give yourself a wide margin of time to do it, and evaluate yourself thereafter.

Too many deadlines, too many unplanned emergencies are not always coincidental.  For instance, a young family did not pay their rent.  They received an eviction notice to vacate the premises of their apartment within 30 days.  Casually, they placed the notice on top of their refrigerator and went on about their business as usual.  One day before they were to be evicted, they sounded an alarm to everyone they know.  They called around seeking relief from their plight and termed
